Shelby Township Sprinkler Winterization & Blowouts
City-water and pump-fed irrigation systems. Schedule before sustained freezing weather arrives.
Shelby Township Sprinkler Winterization: City Water, Lake Pump & Well Pump Field Report
Hunter HydroTech documented three different Shelby Township irrigation systems during the 2026 winterization season: a 9-zone city-water system near 24 Mile & Van Dyke, an 8-zone lake-pump system near 22 Mile & Schoenherr, and a 15-zone well/pump system near 24 Mile & Dequindre.
Three Shelby Township systems, three different source-side shutdowns
The sprinkler zones still need to be cleared on every property, but the water source changes what happens before and after the zone-by-zone blowout. City-water irrigation depends on the irrigation shutoff and exposed supply-side plumbing. Pump-fed systems add equipment that can hold water and equipment that should not be allowed to run dry after the system has been drained.
These are broad corridor references from actual Hunter HydroTech work, not customer addresses.
9-zone city-water system near 24 Mile & Van Dyke
This property represents the city-water side of Shelby Township winterization. The irrigation supply is isolated, the proper winterization connection is used, and the active stations are worked through individually so the mainline and laterals can be cleared.
A smaller city-water system may be quicker than a large pump-fed property, but it still needs every active station accounted for. Turning off the timer alone does not remove water from the irrigation piping.
8-zone lake-pump system near 22 Mile & Schoenherr
On this documented lake-pump system, Hunter HydroTech connected at the pump, removed the master-valve/pump-control wire from the controller, worked through the eight stations for roughly two to three minutes per zone as conditions required, cleared the system with compressed air, drained the pump, and left the controller off with the pump-control wire disconnected.
Why the intake stayed installed
This customer's intake did not have a union and historically had not been removed. Hunter HydroTech normally removes a seasonal intake when the installation is designed for that service, but we did not force apart an intake assembly that was not configured for routine removal.
15-zone well/pump system near 24 Mile & Dequindre
The third documented Shelby system had fifteen irrigation zones and a well/pump water source. The larger station count means more field system must be sequenced, while the pump and source-side plumbing add seasonal considerations that do not exist on an ordinary city-water property.
This is why Hunter HydroTech asks for the water source and approximate zone count before scheduling pump winterization.
What this proves about Shelby Township irrigation
Shelby Township cannot be accurately described as one type of sprinkler market. Hunter HydroTech's current field work includes municipal-water systems, lake-fed pumps, well/pump irrigation, older systems, newer systems, large manifolds, wiring repairs, controller work and seasonal service.
The useful question is not simply, “What city is the property in?” It is, “What water source and irrigation system are actually installed at this property?”
